A New Substack about my music
This publication will focus on my music: the what, why, where, when, and how
Welcome to my life in music
I signed up for Substack in February 2025 with the goal of continuing my commentary on current events. The reason at the time was clear: Facebook had banned Canadians from accessing any news, and had also tweaked their advertising so the place was getting somewhat overwhelmed by ads among things I wanted to read from friends. But most friends are Canadian, and they couldn’t refer to news stories. And so the only way to do so was cut and paste. Tedious. And X is owned by a fascist. Instagram is also a Meta platform. I was done. So now it’s Bluesky (@johnolivermusic.bsky.social) and Substack.
Why this, why now?
As my subscriber numbers skyrocketed, I began to share some of my music so as to give better context to the real me, and clarify for those who thought they were subscribed to the HBO comedian, that they were not. But now the time has come to find the real audience for my music. That’s why this publication now.
An interactive fan club
This publication will function somewhat like a music fan club. I share my music and behind-the-scenes stories and videos. And you get special offers when I release or perform music. And I may also share thoughts about other topics in music besides me.
My musical life is rich, so I won’t be posting more than a couple of times a week, likely on Mondays and Thursdays. I will probably keep subscriptions free, but if you do want to support my music, please subscribe at Bandcamp.
Thanks for joining my music publication.
I look forward to reading your comments on what I present here.
All best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous 2026!

I am enjoying "Trembling Aspen" as I write.
